This acclaimed film follows the path of a stolen watch as it affects those around it.

Based on a story by famed Chinese author Lu Xun, and adapted from the works of Russian writer Panteleev, was filmed with a non-professional cast and hidden cameras.

Xiaoniu, an orphan, stole a gold watch from the watch repairer Old Wan. Due to unfair division of the spoils, Xiaoniu had a fight with the other two partners. They were detained by police. Each of them was loyal and no one told who stole the watch. Later, Xiaoniu was sent to the children's house of correction. The counselor Yin Xiaochen found out that Xiaoniu stole the watch. He
then threatened Xiaoniu to steal and sell public properties for him. Another kid, Xiaopang, discovers their secret and reports it to instructor Lei. Xiaoniu tells Yin about this and Xiaopang is beaten heavily for it. Afterwards, Xiaoniu learned that
Old Wan was put into prison because of missing the watch and his granddaughter was homeless. Xiaoniu feels guilty and finally reveals all the truth.
