After collaborating for See You on You Tube in 2008, the Oxide Pang-led directing team Seven's strikes again in 2009 with the youth comedy Trick or Cheat. This star-studded send-up of Hong Kong's high school exam system revolves around a group of students conspiring to cheat in inventive ways on the make-or-break A-levels. The ensemble cast of idols, including William Chan (Overheard), G.E.M (Love Connected), Michelle Wai (Happily Ever After), Siufay (See You on You Tube), and Square's James Ho (See You on You Tube), go through the youth film rites of adolescent angst, romantic triangles, and coming-of-age tropes amid social satire, plentiful parodies, and hilarious gags. There's even a high school musical thrown in for good measure!Top students William (William) and Gem (G.E.M.) want to put on a year-end musical, but the principal threatens to shut down the production because the cast members are in dire academic strait. To save the musical, William and Gem have to turn their underperforming buddies into A-students for the A-levels, which are just a month away. It's too late for tutoring so instead William and Gem teach them how to cheat their way through the exams with gadgets, codes, cram school tips, and even spirit possession! The problems pile up for the friends as relationships change, secrets spill, and the exams come rolling in.
