A little-seen gem from Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence-director Oshima, Three Resurrected Drunkards is a fast-moving comedy using pop music and pastiche to shed a cynical light on the influence of late 1960s' culture on a bunch of students. When their clothes are stolen by a group of Koreans, the ensuing mayhem is hardly Richard Lester territory, more like Last Year in Marienbad on acid. Highly recommended for its sheer energy, inventiveness and unfamiliar music.
