Made by Nobou Nakagawa in the same year as his magnum opus, Jigoku, this is a nice little noirish drama. A young woman, Kyoko, is forced to marry Aoki, a man he sees fit to take over the business of her rich industrialist father. She doesn’t want this ofcourse, she has her mind set on Soichi, a sweet nobody. One evening she confronts her dad with her love for Soichi and the fact that she is carrying his baby. They have a great row and she is thrown out of the family. After she’s gone we see the father take a sip of whisky before falling down and dying. All the evidence points to Kyoko and she is therefore sentenced to death. With help of an inmate she escapes after a year and travels to Tokyo to find out who framed her and set things straight.This was an ok movie with some nice noirsh effects and a great soundtrack. At 77 minutes it’s nice and tight with not a minute wasted. It is kind of predictable though…
