Descripción momentánea en inglés: 'The Old Days of Vu Dai Village’ is a classic North Vietnamese film said to be a truthful adaptation of peasants’ lives before the August Revolution in 1945.

The film, produced by Director Pham Van Khoa in 1982, is based on 3 novels written by Nam Cao. These were: Sống Mòn (Corroded life), Chí Phèo and Lão Hạc (Old Man Hac). Khoa showed his creativity and break-through in the film’s production. He was one of the few directors brave enough to include a ‘sensitive’ element in the film. Such element was retained in the film since without it the film would lose its emotions and spirit.

In the film, the director allowed the main character, a teacher called Thứ (a rural intellectual) to witness his neighbour’s daily tragedies and hardships and get worn down by the mundane aspects of life. These included the personal tragedy of lão Hạc who was a very poor lonely old man. All Hạc he had for company was his dog, Vàng, before he sold him to a butcher. The film also features a unique love story between Thị Nở and Chí Phèo. Chí Pheo was obsessed with vengeance and had almost lost his humanity. But then he met an ugly girl called Thị Nở, and an unusual love story began.- Hanoi Grapevine
