Sinopsis momentánea en inglés: Period drama set in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in the small town of Narail on the banks of the River Chitra where Hindus and Muslims are neighbours. The story centres around Shaskikanta Sengupta, a Hindu lawyer who is a widower, living with his children in an old ancestral house. After the partition of India in 1947, a large number of Hindus migrated to India but Shashikanta refuses to leave. Later the Muslim-Hindu riots affect all their lives and Shashikanta's health deteriorates. After his death, his daughter Minoti and her aunt leave Narail and make for Calcutta.
