The Cheng sisters, Li-Fang and Li-Chiung, leave war-torn Shanghai for Hong Kong. Li-Chiung is rescued from robbers by Chieu Pei-Ling, who decides to try out her luck in Hong Kong with the Chengs. They join Uncle and Aunt in Hong Kong, and they get along wonderfully with the daughter Cheng Hsiao-Chuen.The four girls go to school. Li-Chiung falls in love with Tony and elopes. That casts the first shadows on the friendships. It's Li-Fang's turn to fall in love, but both times Pei-Ling steals her men.
