‘The Hurricane’ is set near the end of the Sung dynasty and it’s the old story of a corrupt official, in this case Prime Minister Ka Chi To, sending a secret letter to the Yuen Army with the intention of aiding their invasion of the country and overthrow of the crumbling government. At the start of the film, after watching an enchanting fan dance, the Prime Minister is shown entrusting the letter to a masked figure to deliver, when the Prime Minister presses for the messenger’s identity his underlings imply that he is the famous swordsman ‘Hurricane’. Fortunately a patriotic swordswoman (Nora Miao) is hiding outside and hears of the plot, after she has informed the other patriots of the news they decide that they must intercept the letter and the film turns into a chase across country with many twists, turns and intrigues along the way as the three separate groups (the patriots, the Prime Ministers lackeys and the Hurricane himself) battle to achieve their missions.
