The film describes the frustrated experience and love of Pan Laowu, who makes his living by draining off waste water. It reflects the suffering brought about in the Cultural Revolution, the kindness of common working people, their firm belief and their aspiration for a better life. In 1983 the film won the Prize for the Best Film awarded by the Cultural Ministry of China. And in the Fourth Hawaii International Film Festival in 1984, it gained the Prize for the Central Film in the Western Films.

Por fin la vi. Me ha parecido más que interesante, no sólo por la historia en sí, sino por como te empapas de lo que debió ser aquel tramo histórico tan duro del pueblo chino.

Amor y fidelidad a unos ideales llevados hasta las últimas consecuencias.

Muchas gracias a acbarra, MieMie y Mario Vitale por aproximarnos a esta película (también a preacher por su recomendación). A mí me ha parecido un argumento un tanto común y que contiene ciertos tintes melodramáticos, de todas maneras sin llegar a entusiasmarme sí me ha gustado, pues pienso que está bastante bien llevado, lo que más me ha gustado ha sido la dirección, la fotografía y la tonalidad, la banda sonora tampoco está nada mal.
