I must say, these days I would have thought it impossible to come across a Stephen Chow film that nobody else has reviewed. Any fans of his real work have missed out on this film.Despite the English title, this is not really a comedy, but a hard hitting crime film. Not to say it’s comedy-free though. I would say the closest film I could compare this to is Curry And Pepper, combining a serious action film with comedy. The action is excellent, most of the jokes are funny (they were original back then anyway!), but unfortunately the story is empty (little more than people trying to escape being caught by criminals who are after them!)….and also takes a good 20 minutes to start. When it does though, it’s very entertaining. An all star cast presence with Stephen Chow is in this very underrated film, including Sibelle Hu (the real star of the film), Kenneth Tsang and Alex Fong. All of which do a good job. The infamous Chor Yuen has never really made many successful gangster films (despite playing that type of character in numerous films), but this one is different, maybe it’s because Yuen Bun assisted him and also took care of the action side of things. If you like the ‘realistic’ character side of Stephen Chow, then this is a must film, and even those who enjoy his comedy farces would probably enjoy it too. One of the best Stephen Chow films (though a few years ago I didn’t think this was so great!), coming close in my opinion to All For The Winner, Curry And Pepper, and Final Justice…all of which are my favourite Stephen Chow films.Recommended.
